From this window, where before one could see
Only buildings and neighbours, kids at play,
One now looks out on unobstructed sea -
An improved view, all else bulldozed away.
Still, one would have to ignore the debris
Of rubble and rotting flesh, lives shattered,
The charred remains of the once living tree,
And convince oneself they never mattered.
Gaze instead at where the horizon blends
Into an open sky from where death fell
And formed a beauty that innocence ends,
Beyond the smoke and ash and heaps of hell.
